Paul is a passionate, experienced and ambitious creative person that lives to engage in and learn more about modern media. Having studied film production, digital media, fine art and marketing, Paul has developed a diverse yet distinct portfolio. From working as a video editor on high profile Canadian short films in addition to working as on screen talent on numerous productions, Paul has taken on a variety of roles both in front and behind the camera. Currently finishing a Bachelors degree in Media Production at TMU, Paul is an avid learner and thoughtful problem solver. Above all, across industries and creative sectors, one constant for Paul is the high level of energy he brings to any project. The variety in this portfolio stems from a deep enthusiasm for new knowledge, and a drive to make a positive impact in the ever growing media landscape.

Media Production

The Media Production section of the portfolio encompasses all on set production experience outside of video editing. With work experience ranging from video, to audio or immersive mediums, this portion of the portfolio highlights the contributions made on independent films, podcasts, video game projects and collaborative multi media ventures. As a competent art director, producer, camera operator, sound operator and designer Paul loves to bring a creative vision to life by working with care and precision in a team.

Marketing

With 3+ years of experience as the Events and Marketing Manager of the Markham Arts Council (a registered non for profit) and another 2+ years of experience as a Digital Media Content Creator for Student Life TMU, Paul has worked on both large corporate campaigns and on the promotion of small local events alike. Whether in a big team of 20+ people or in a tighter team of 3 or even when working solo, Paul always works intuitively to build contemporary marketing strategies that meet the needs and interests of diverse audiences. Paul has run marketing campaigns by making newsletters, building websites, posting on social media, managing CRM and overseeing internal communications. Having contributed to dozens of social media accounts, Paul has a complex understanding of how algorithms function. Therefore, he has tested expertise in content optimization techniques necessary to maximize engagement and reach online.

Video Editing

For Paul, the assembly involved in post production is the most important part of a production. Editing for him determines the most significant moments of a film and how they will be conveyed to an audience. Paul a picture editor and/or video editor with expansive experience. This includes sequence assembly, linear editing, montage editing, colour grading, colour keying, motion graphics, sound editing and visual effects. Whether it’s scripted or reality/documentary, Paul is passionate about delivering work that seamlessly translates the vision of the projects creators. He believes the greatest edits are the ones you hardly notice. Sequences that appear completely natural to a projects plot and purpose.

On Screen

On screen acting, modeling and performance are some of the fun ways Paul gets to express himself in contemporary media. With a lively energy and a deep sense of self, his presence gives character and voice to any production. Paul’s unique style is defined by his eccentric accessories, bold patterns and genderless silhouettes. Charisma and comedy is at the heart of Paul’s identity both as an individual and as a performer. Be it large scale multi camera productions or small scale photoshoots, Paul is always calm and centered on set, driven to tell a story authentically.

Miscellaneous

A background in fine art has given Paul a lifelong passion for visual media and craft making. His always colourful, whimsical, wonderful, Toronto-based jewelry business Paul’s Trinkets features both his handmade gold, silver and beaded jewelry. Also featured is his vintage accessories collected from years of researched thrift shopping. Adornment for Paul is synonymous with celebration and self determination. Alongside a deep love for accessories, Paul also is profoundly interested in visual art from around the world. As an exhibited artist himself, Paul is inspired in his work by colourful depictions of nature and multi media experimentation. His secondary education included classical training in drawing, painting and sketchbooking, studying worldly techniques and theories of art. Outside of traditional art, Paul has also made portfolio worth of pieces with soapstone, recycled plastic, textiles, clay, lithography and other tactile mediums.

Mission and Vision

As a settler on Turtle Island and as the child of Moldovan and Uzbeki immigrants, honouring my identity, loved ones and my place in the western world inherently means critiquing colonialist ways of being. My creative practice strives continuously to unlearn unsustainable and exploitative behaviours. Being queer in many ways also informs my work, to be more authentic and curious about diverse storytelling.
